Context Boxes

Day 12 · August 14, 2026

Yesterday my agent coded the page from the wireframe and I saw screenshots of how the page may look when TVLens goes live.

Today we worked on context boxes. In the wireframe v1, when the TV show page showed recommended “more shows like this,” it showed the names of the people that show shares with the parent show. That did not sit right with me because it implies that the user knows who the cast or crew member is by name. To fix this issue, I tested going with photos of the cast or crew. However, less than half of the people in TMDb have photos so that was not going to work. The photos would also need to be properly sized and identifiable to the user.

Instead, I opted for a context box. This context box will tell the user how that show is related to the parent TV show.

I think this is good enough for a user whether they are new to the site or have already rated TV shows across the site. Now that the context boxes are there and styled, I will shift my work back to the recommender and tackle learned weights.
